A Professional Introduction

Kevin Cao is a young professional pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Global Development Studies at the University of Virginia (UVA). A Jefferson Scholar, Echols Scholar, and Meriwether Lewis Fellow, Kevin has been recognized for his leadership and scholarship across diverse local, national, and international platforms.

In the summer of 2016, Kevin Cao worked as a summer intern at a major consulting firm in Silicon Valley. Now back at UVA for his fall semester, Kevin is heavily involved on campus. He is continuing his three-year fellows program with the Vice President of Student Affairs, Patricia Lampkin, and will see the completion of his $4.2M proposal for a new university student center.

In 2014, Kevin previously competed in a charter school design competition hosted by 4.0 Schools, New Schools for New Orleans, and Khan Academy. He attended the competition finalist round in New Orleans and developed a student-centered proposal with leaders in education policy. He was part of the only student team to be named finalists.

Kevin has been involved with various campus organizations as an undergraduate. He gives tours of the UNESCO World Heritage site to visitors of the university as a tour guide in the University Guide Service, and was a Perkins Fellow with Theological Horizons.

Additionally, he worked alongside the U.Va. chapter of Engineering Students Without Borders to conduct a two-year pro-bono consulting project in Siuna, Nicaragua. Kevin secured over $20,000 in research grants and partnered with NGO Bridges to Community to improve rural water infrastructure. Kevin and his team were honored by President Bill Clinton at the 2015 Clinton Global Initiative University for their research.

Kevin Cao is a Co-Founder of Growth and Inspiration through Volunteering and Education (GIVE), the largest student-led 501(c)(3) non-profit in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. Since 2009, the nonprofit has driven impact in the region through various projects, from a free tutoring program to book drives and summer education initiatives.
